The First 90 Days After Divorce Can Feel Impossible:
A free Christian guide to help you stabilize, find support, make wise next steps, and begin rebuilding with hope after divorce.

A Christian guide for what comes next
Divorce can leave you feeling overwhelmed, ashamed, angry, relieved, confused, lonely, and exhausted, sometimes all in the same day.
If you are in the first few weeks or months after divorce, you may be asking questions you never thought you would ask:
- What do I do now?
- How do I talk to my kids?
- Where do I fit at church?
- How do I make wise decisions when I feel so unstable?
- What does healing even look like from here?
You do not have to figure out your whole future today.
The first 90 days after divorce are not about rebuilding your entire life overnight. They are about stabilizing, finding safe support, avoiding unnecessary damage, and taking your next faithful step with God.
You are not crazy. You are walking through loss.
Divorce is not just the end of a marriage. It can also feel like the loss of a home, a future, a family structure, a role, a reputation, and the life you thought you were building.
That kind of loss affects your emotions, your body, your faith, your relationships, your parenting, your finances, and your sense of identity.
You may feel grief one hour and anger the next. You may feel relief and then feel guilty for feeling relief. You may want to explain your side, hide from everyone, start over immediately, or simply make it through the day.
Be careful with decisions made from pain
In the first 90 days, it can be tempting to do something dramatic just to feel like you have control again.
When possible, move slowly on major decisions like dating, moving, changing churches, posting details online, making big financial commitments, cutting off every mutual friend, or letting bitterness become your new identity.
A helpful question is:
Am I making this decision from wisdom, or am I making it from pain?
Pain needs care. Wisdom needs time.
A Christian resource for divorce recovery
UnYoked Ministries helps Christians walk through divorce, recovery, and single Christian living with biblical honesty, practical wisdom, and hope.
We believe people affected by divorce need more than quick answers, shame, silence, or shallow advice. They need truth, grace, support, and a path toward healing.
This free guide is a starting point.

What should you focus on first?
Days 1–30: Stabilize
Be Prepared
The first month is about getting steady enough to function.
Focus on the basics. Eat real food. Drink water. Sleep as best you can. Walk. Pray honestly, even if your prayer is only, “Lord, help me.” Tell a few safe people the truth. Get clear on immediate legal, financial, parenting, housing, and church-related responsibilities.
You do not need to tell everyone everything. You do need a few people who can walk with you wisely.
Days 31–60: Rebuild support
Find your Tribe
After the initial shock, another layer of grief can settle in. This is when support matters.
Do not confuse privacy with isolation. You may not owe everyone details, but you do need people.
Look for support in five areas: spiritual support, emotional support, practical support, social support, and wise counsel. This may include trusted friends, a pastor, a counselor, a small group, a mentor, or a healthy recovery resource.
Days 61–90: Create a new rhythm
Don’t Rush
By this point, some people may expect you to be “better.” You may expect that of yourself too.
But the goal is not to be fully healed by day 90. The goal is to begin creating a life that is not only a reaction to what happened.
Start building simple rhythms for faith, health, friendship, parenting, finances, church, and purpose.
You are not trying to pretend the divorce did not hurt. You are learning how to move forward with honesty, wisdom, and faith.
